Boeing Visits ACC to Recruit Students Wednesday, June 8

Boeing, the world’s largest aerospace company, is visiting Austin Community College Wednesday, June 8, to recruit students from the college’s Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design (CAD) Department.

“One of our department’s strengths is that we are able to tap into Austin’s high-tech engineering and architectural community to locate faculty with cutting-edge CAD skills and knowledge,” says Doug Smith, department chair. “While many of our graduates go to work for local employers, the quality of our program also attracts employers from outside the area.”

Boeing will make a presentation to the ACC chapter of the American Society of Engineering Education and interview students. The presentation will be at 5:30 p.m. at Northridge Campus (Room 3140); all interested ACC students are invited to attend.

“Boeing strives to employ the best and brightest students from across the nation for our engineering design organizations,” says Steven E. Culp, senior manager of technical design, skills and processes for Boeing Commercial Airplanes. “We work to engage community colleges with strong mechanical and structural engineering programs that support our requirements. We’re very excited to meet with students and faculty at Austin Community College to discuss our program and employment opportunities.”

ACC offers a two-year program leading to an Associate of Applied Science degree along with a one-year certificate program; areas of specialization include architectural, civil, electronic, mechanical, and interdisciplinary CAD. The department is expanding its offerings this fall and has secured grant funding to add new lab equipment. Registration for fall classes begins June 13 for new students. In addition to its credit CAD programs, the college has Continuing Education classes for current professionals.

Students from the CAD program have strong job prospects, as projected population growth in the Austin area is expected to correlate with an increase in construction projects.
