The ACC Choir Stages Sondheim Musical

The ACC Choral Department is bringing the Broadway king’s music to Austin. The choir will perform Stephen Sondheim’s Broadway revue “Putting It Together” from June 24 to July 3.

The show runs each Friday and Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. and Sunday afternoons at 2:30 p.m. at Northridge Campus (11928 Stonehollow Dr.) in Building 4000’s Lecture Hall.

“It has been a dream of mine to perform this musical for years,” says Dr. Jim Shepherd, ACC’s director of choral and vocal music. “We have a very talented group of students this year and I knew it was a good time to ‘put it together.’ ”

The ACC Choral Department chose to honor Stephen Sondheim, who has won more Tony Awards than any other composer (a total of eight).

“I think Sondheim is the greatest musical theater genius of all time. His music is refreshing and unique, and he is able to always put a tune in your ear that you walk away humming,” says Shepherd.

“Putting It Together” is about a wealthy New York couple that is hosting a lavish party at their Park Avenue apartment in an effort to heal their failing marriage. The musical features many of Sondheim’s famous songs such as “Back in Business” and music from Sondheim’s musicals, including “A Little Night Music,” “Into the Woods,” “Sweeney Todd,” and “Follies.”

This show is recommended for ages 13 and older. Tickets are $8 for the public, and $5 for ACC students. You can purchase advance tickets online. Tickets also will be sold at the door. Parking is free.
