Distance Learning Loading Changes

By Mike Midgley
Vice President of Workforce Education and Business Development

At its June 2 meeting, Academic and Campus Affairs Council approved changes to the faculty workload Administrative Rule related to Distance Learning courses. These changes will be effective for the Spring 2012 semester.

The primary changes that affect scheduling and loading faculty are:

  • All sections of a Distance Learning course taught by a full-time or adjunct faculty member in a semester earns the same number of LEH as the on-campus equivalent and are compensated in the same manner.
  • Student limit (maximum) per Distance Learning section is determined by the “course cap” identified for each course in the Approved Active Course Inventory. The minimum-to-make will be governed by the current standard.

Beginning this spring, the current system of pro-rating, etc., will not be in effect. Distance Learning sections will be treated like any other section.

Additionally, adding students to sections beyond the course limit (overloading sections) will go through the same process as on-campus sections.
