Creative Writing Hosts Aug. 4 Forum for Women in Writing/Producing

ACC’s Creative Writing Department will host a forum for women interested in the film, television, and theater industries Thursday, August 4, 6 pm, at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd, Building 8000, Room 8362.) “Women Who Are Doing It For Themselves” provides an opportunity for aspiring screenwriters, performers, and poets to meet working professionals – all women of color (or “colorful” women) – in the entertainment field. The event is free and open to the community.

Panelists include film and TV executive Lizette Jamison, filmmaker and poet Maganthrie Pillay, and award-winning theater/film producer Amparo Garcia-Crow. They will answer questions and discuss ways for participants to strengthen their creative writing skills. A representative from the Austin Creative Alliance will provide information about local resources for writers and producers.Â

“So much is expected of women that it can be hard to find the time to nurture one’s creative side,” says Carla L. Jackson, associate director of ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies and an organizer of the event. “These problems seem to show up even more for women of color. This forum will bring women together to collaborate and share tips, stories, and resources.”

Please note: the forum will feature a screening of a film in-progress that contains mature themes and adult language.
