UPDATE: Crime Prevention Seminars Today and Friday

ACC Emergency Alert

9/08/2011 UPDATE: Two seminars remaining – today at the Highland Business Center and Friday at Riverside Campus. No registration required for either event.

Students, staff, and faculty are invited to attend a seminar that can save their lives.

ACC District Police will be on campus speaking with groups about crime prevention and answering questions about how to respond if a gunman is reported on campus. The talks are part of Emergency Preparedness Week Sept. 6-9.

“Personal safety is a unique and individual effort for all of us,” says interim Police Chief Lynn Dixon. “We provide students and employees with information and options that allow them to make informed decisions on their personal safety.”

The “Crime Prevention and Active Shooter Q&A” lasts 1½ hours and covers safety precautions, policies, and procedures if a crime were to happen on an ACC campus. One of the most important topics of the seminar is to how to respond, and survive, if someone were to encounter an active shooter at ACC.

“Remember, police can only do so much,” Dixon says. “You need to learn how to react so we can watch out for each other and help each other.”

The following seminars are free and open to all. “We hope to see everyone there,” he says.

The college is hosting Emergency Preparedness Week to educate students, faculty, and staff on the best actions to take if an emergency were to happen on campus. Visit www.austincc.edu/emergency for more information on emergency preparedness and to sign up for ACC Emergency Alert, the college’s emergency notification system.
