ACC awarded $ 234,000 the THECB’s Comprehensive Student Success Program Grant

The grant activities are designed to support SSI goal 3 by providing comprehensive student support for students enrolled in four gatekeeper courses (Philosophy, Sociology, Math, and English 1301) during FY 2012. The grant also includes substantial professional development and support for faculty and student services staff. E3 Alliance is serving as the outside evaluator.

ACC Accepted into the 2011 National Summer Institute for Learning Communities

The College’s Learning Communities proposal was accepted in a competitive process by Evergreen College’s Washington Center. Nine student services personnel, developmental education, and English faculty attended the week-long National Summer Institute for Learning Communities in Olympia, Washington. The cohort developed an FY 2012-13 enhancement plan.

Inclusion and Diversity Consultant Facilitates Cultural Competence Workshop

Nydia Gonzalez, consultant and Associate Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion at Tarrant County Community College System, conducted a half-day workshop early this summer to prepare ACC’s Cultural Competence Work Group to begin designing assessments to identify the College’s strengths and challenges with regard to inclusion and diversity.

College Access Programs College-wide Professional Development Conference

Developmental and adult education, English for Speakers of Other Languages faculty, and student services personnel will join President Rhodes at the “Policies, Practices and Pathways for Student Success” Conference on Sept. 23. The event includes an opening session with Dr. Rhodes,  faculty- and staff-led break-out sessions, and keynote speaker Dr. Tamara Clunis for an awards & recognition lunch for faculty and staff.

Kudos from Achieving the Dream

ACC received accolades for the Board’s key policy revisions to strengthen institutional support for student success, as well as for the presidential search and selection process in the summer feedback report. The College continues to receive national attention for its holistic approach to student success and for the Faculty Coach Program.

New FY 12 Faculty Coach Program Kick-off at Annual Data Retreat on Sept. 30

Twenty new departments will enter the Faculty Coach Program during FY 12. Deans, chairs, and coaches will meet to learn about updates to the program and review relevant data and research-based practices. Accounting professor Dr. Norma Jacobs and department Chair Dr. Reed Peoples will share departmental survey results and implications for curricular redesign and or instructional delivery.
