Drama Department Presents “The Lucky Spot,” Nov. 4-6 and 11-13

ACC’s Drama Department will present Beth Henley’s Depression-era comedy about a group of down-on-their-luck ne’er-do-wells who dream of opening Louisiana’s hottest new dance hall November 4-6 and 11-13 at the Rio Grande Campus (1212 Rio Grande St.).

James Hawkins and Yesenia Garcia star in "The Lucky Spot."

“The Lucky Spot” tells the story of a gambler, his estranged wife – who has just been released from the penitentiary – and their plans to turn an old Victorian house into a taxi-dancing emporium. It stars Yesenia Garcia, adjunct assistant professor of drama, and James Hawkins, a former ACC drama student.

“We chose the play because so many families are facing desperate circumstances with the economic troubles the country is experiencing,” says Shelby Brammer, Drama Department chair and director of the production. “The story is about keeping your head high, your heart open, and pushing on through, told through Beth Henley’s quirky, humorous lens.” Henley is the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “Crimes of the Heart.”

“The Lucky Spot” will be presented November 4-6 and 11-13 at Rio Grande’s Mainstage Theatre. Times are 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays and 2 p.m. Sundays. Suggested donations are $5 for students and $10 for the general audience. All box office funds benefit drama and dance scholarships. For more information, email [email protected] or call 223.3245.
