VisComm Professor Honored for Service to Hispanic Community

ACC Visual Communication Professor Sam Coronado recently was honored by the University of Texas for his service to Austin’s Hispanic community. Coronado was one of four recipients of UT’s Community Leadership Award for contributions in education and community service.

Sam Coronado lectures on Chicano art in schools around the country.

“Through their leadership and dedication, these individuals and organizations have and continue to transform Austin,” said UT President Bill Powers. “They inspire new waves of young people to play an active role in strengthening our community.”

Coronado is a recognized Austin artist and co-founder of the Mexic-Arte Museum. In 1992 he established the Coronado Studio, a commercial printmaking facility, and the following year launched the Serie Project, a non-profit organization that allows Latino artists to learn and practice serigraphy at no cost. More than 250 artists from the United States and abroad have created original prints through the Coronado Studio.

Coronado teaches and lectures on Chicano art in museums, art schools, and universities around the country. He has been with ACC since 1991.
