Quereau Nominated for Statewide Teaching Award

Tobin Quereau, ACC professor of human development, has been nominated for the 2012 Minnie Stevens Piper award for outstanding academic, scientific, and scholarly achievement by a college faculty member in Texas.

Tobin Quereau has taught at ACC since 1982.

Quereau was chosen by ACC’s Piper Professor Nomination Selection Committee to be considered for the annual award, which is bestowed on only 10 professors statewide. While the award recognizes professors’ contributions in a number of areas, its primary intent is to honor educators for their exceptional dedication to teaching.

Quereau was one of four ACC faculty members considered for the nomination. The other finalists were Dr. Alice Sessions, professor of biology, Dr. Jennifer Beck, associate professor of psychology, and Anne-Marie Schlender, professor of English for Speakers of Other Languages.

“Each of these educators represents the best of their profession,” says Terry Mouchayleh, director of professional development and evaluation programs. “Although only one of these outstanding faculty members is the Piper nominee, they all deserve congratulations for being considered.”

Mouchayleh says the finalists were selected for their effectiveness in the classroom and in their personal contact with students, along with their additional administrative duties and service to the off-campus community. The recipients of the Piper award, which includes a $5,000 honorarium, will be named in early May 2012.
