The Austin Community College District will mark Veterans Day with “Honoring the Service,” an event that will feature student veterans reading their works. Honoring the Service is set for 7 p.m. Friday, November 11, at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd., Building G, Room 8100). It is free and open to the public.

“ACC is committed to acknowledging the contributions of student veterans,” says Charlotte Gullick, chair of the Creative Writing Department. “Veterans express themselves in very moving ways. Sharing their writing is cathartic for many veterans, and it is an honor to hear their work.”

Honoring the Service also will feature a reading by David M. Parsons, the 2011 Texas poet laureate. Austin Mayor Lee Leffingwell is set to welcome the audience.

This is ACC’s second Honoring the Service event. It is sponsored by the Arts and Humanities Division, the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies, ACC Veterans Affairs, and the Creative Writing Department.
