ACC students affected by the new meningitis immunization requirement received the following email Friday, January 6.
Our reports indicate many students are encountering significant challenges to completing the meningitis vaccination requirement in time for the spring semester.
The intent of the law is to create a healthier college environment, not to prevent students from pursuing their education. Because of this, we will work with you to help you come into compliance this spring. If you do not submit vaccine documentation or exemption paperwork, you will not be permitted to register for future semesters until the requirement is fulfilled.
For more information on the requirement and locations to obtain the vaccination, visit austincc.edu/apply/immunizations. Get answers to frequently asked questions here.
Thank you for your understanding, and best wishes for a great semester.
Sincerely,
Kathleen Christensen, Ph.D.

So, does this email mean that I can comply during the spring semester, but not necessarily by this weekend?
By mreyes January 6, 2012 - 3:55 pm
Yes, Selina. Please activate your Magnus Health account and submit your documents as soon as you receive them.
By Rae January 6, 2012 - 5:23 pm
MREYES, you are saying on here that we students can submit our paperwork at some point during the Spring Semester and not necessarily by the Jan 17th deadline. But the ACC District Facebook page says otherwise. Whoever is the administrator for the page stated:
“Hi April,
The new law states that students must submit proof of vaccination or decline at least 10 days before the first day of class. Spring 2012 begins Jan. 17, making the deadline Jan. 7”
So what you are saying MREYES is contradicting to what the FB page ACC District is saying.
Who is right??
By mreyes January 6, 2012 - 6:51 pm
Rae, see the announcement at http://www.austincc.edu/newsroom/index.php/2012/01/06/important-update-on-meningitis-immunization-requirement/.

Foggy responses….
So in essence, the weekend deadline is no longer a deadline….just turn it in once you have it?
By mreyes January 7, 2012 - 5:41 am
Alex and Chris, you will not be dropped from your classes.
By Chris January 7, 2012 - 5:37 am
I submitted my forms to Magnus earlier this week and my Magnus profile says that my status is complete. I have not received any other kind of confirmation so I just wanted to be on the safe side and ask if that was all I needed to do.

I am concerned because I attend ACC in the fall and by the law it states I am exempt from having the vaccination. So why am I receiving an email that mine is incomplete when I dont need to get it.
I am confused and freaking out because I fear that I will be dropped from my classes. Will I be dropped from my classes if I dont get this form turned in by the 7th? Or do I still have up until the Spring Semester or during the semester to turn it in? Help!!!
By mreyes January 8, 2012 - 12:59 pm
Lindsey, some students have been incorrectly identified as needing the immunization. Contact [email protected] with your concern.

If a student attended ACC in the fall 2011 and is under 30, is he/she still required to submit proof of immunization?
By mreyes January 8, 2012 - 1:00 pm
Belinda, students under 30 who attended ACC in fall do NOT need to submit proof of immunization.
By Kevin January 7, 2012 - 11:45 pm
Will we be able to attend if we submit our form on the day of the deadline? Jan. 8th.
By mreyes January 8, 2012 - 12:57 pm
Kevin, students can continue to submit the form as they complete the process.

Just to clarify, if we do not provide the school with records of a meningitis shot by this weekend, will we be dropped from our registered courses for this spring 2012 semester?
Or, do we just have to provide our immunization records prior to attempting to register for any classes in the future *after* this upcoming spring semester?
I just want to make sure my classes are secure for this spring 2012 semester, and that I won’t be dropped from courses if I cant provide my shot records by the end of this weekend.
I apologize for the lengthy comment and would sincerely appreciate any response one may have. Thank you!
By mreyes January 8, 2012 - 12:56 pm
Savanna, your classes are secure. Students will not be dropped from classes this spring. A hold will prevent future registrations, however.
By Makeda January 9, 2012 - 12:38 am
Will students who are enrolled in the Spring 2012 semester but do not plan to enroll for the next semester need to submit shot records at all?
By Mrinal January 11, 2012 - 12:45 pm
I have my vaccination forms, what is the mailing address I should send them to?
By mreyes January 11, 2012 - 2:38 pm
Mrinal, you need to start with your online account first. If you don’t have your account login information, contact Magnus Health directly at (877) 461.6831.

I submitted by shot records but Magnus Health said there was an error. I recieved the vaccination in December 2011 and sent in my proof on January 5th. I’m trying to resend them now but since I’m five days past my deadline, will I be dropped from my classes? I recieved the vaccination

if my first class starts tomorrow and i get the meningitis vaccination tomorrow, will i be able to attend class?
By mreyes January 17, 2012 - 7:43 am
Kristen, you can go to class while you work on completing the process.
By Cat January 16, 2012 - 3:49 pm
I am only registered for a 5 week continuing education class this spring; will my classes, starting tomorrow, be dropped since I have not had this recent vaccination?
By mreyes January 17, 2012 - 7:42 am
Cat, only a few Continuing Education classes were affected by the meningitis requirement. Even if you received a meningitis notice from Magnus Health, you won’t be dropped. Just continue to complete the process as you begin class.

I did not receive this e-mail of one about an account with Magus like this page, and the one about the Meningitis vaccination has said I did. I got my shot over 6 months ago and I have the paperwork, I would just like to know where I need to mail, fax, or e-mail it to. How can I figure this out?
By mreyes January 17, 2012 - 5:47 pm
Jenna, for information on activating your Magnus Health account and submitting your documents, contact Magnus Health directly at (877) 461.6831.
By Dave January 18, 2012 - 1:35 pm
How do I know if my continuing education class is affected?
By mreyes January 18, 2012 - 4:27 pm
Dave, only CE students who are taking courses that are 360 contact hours or more and are under 30 years of age are required to have the meningitis immunization before registration. Currently, the programs that meet this requirement are the Medical Assisting Program, Massage Therapy Program, and the Veterinary Assistant Program. If students have not applied or been accepted into these programs, they will not be required to submit verification of the meningitis immunization for CE. If any CE student is also a college credit student, they will be required to submit verification in order to attend their college credit classes.

I’m trying to drop an extraneous class for the semester and cannot because I haven’t gotten the vaccine yet? Do I really have to use a withdrawal to drop the class?
By Robert January 26, 2012 - 12:09 pm
I start classes on the 13th of feb. Will the failure to obtain the vacine on time prevent me from starting school?
