Student Essay Contest Open, Asks “Why is Black History Month relevant in 2012?”

All ACC students are invited to participate in an essay contest answering the question, “Why is Black History Month relevant in 2012?”

“This essay contest is a good way to integrate the academic, social, historical, and contemporary aspects of Black History Month,” says Dorado Kinney, dean of student services for Eastview Campus. “The goal is to get students thinking and reflecting on the significance of black history in our culture.”

Contest entries are due by 5 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 23 and should be submitted via email to [email protected]. The contest is open only to currently enrolled students; read the official rules and find more information on the essay contest webpage.

Essays will be judged on comprehension, organization, creativity, and writing, and the top three essay writers will receive prizes.
