ACC Provides Training with $443,107 Texas Workforce Commission Grant

The Austin Community College District is partnering with Pearson Education to provide job training using a $443,107 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission.

ACC and Pearson representatives accept the grant from Commissioner Ronny Congleton.

The grant, presented to ACC and Pearson by TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton, will be used to train more than 300 new and current Pearson employees. The training, conducted by the college’s Corporate Training Solutions, will help Pearson in its conversion to digital formats and virtual distribution systems, allowing for improved employee performance, retention, and advancement.

“This grant is a reflection of the outstanding training ACC provides to businesses in the region, and we are proud to partner with Pearson Education to benefit the company and its employees,” says Kathy Walton, Ph.D., executive director of Corporate Training Solutions.

Those trained will include content specialists, lead production clerks, and project coordinators. Upon completion of training, the workers will earn an average wage of more than $25 per hour.

From the Skills Development Fund program’s inception in 1996 through 2011, Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 266,000 jobs throughout Texas.

“Our Skills Development Fund grants serve everyone well,” says Commissioner Congleton. “Workers get the specialized training they need, and the communities benefit from a more highly skilled workforce.”

ACC’s Corporate Training Solutions is committed to delivering customized high quality training strategies that build employee performance and productivity skills for local, national, and international businesses. Learn more on the Corporate Training Solutions webpage.
