ACC Expands Pharmacy Technician Training through National Program

The Austin Community College District’s Health Sciences Division is expanding pharmacy technician training through a prestigious national program. The Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) has approved ACC to offer new specialty certifications for Pharmacy Technician students as well as continuing education for current pharmacy professionals.

“This represents the culmination of two years of hard work and dedication, and ACC is proud to be among only a few applicants from across the nation approved to offer these courses,” says Dr. Eileen Klein, dean of health sciences.

Through the approval, known as a providership, the Pharmacy Technician Department will work in concert with the Continuing Education Division to offer highly valued specialty certifications, including sterile compounding, chemotherapy preparation, and pediatric preparation. The first class begins March 24, with enrollment under way.

“The new specialty certificate programs are already making ACC very visible on the national scene,” says Lisa McCartney, chair of the Pharmacy Technician Department. “We are thrilled to be able to provide this benefit to students, pharmacy professionals, and local employers.”

Pharmacy Technician is among ACC’s many high-demand career training programs.

“Area employers seek out our graduates because of the knowledge and skills they develop in ACC’s program as well as the outstanding training they receive through our clinical partners,” says McCartney.
