ACC Partners with St. David's HealthCare to Enhance Hospital Employee Skills

ACC is partnering with St. David’s HealthCare and Hospital Corp. of America (HCA) to provide job training, thanks to a $458,419 Skills Development Fund grant from the Texas Workforce Commission. The training will benefit HCA/St. David’s employees at facilities in Austin, Round Rock, Georgetown, and El Paso.

ACC, St. David's Healthcare, and HCA representatives accept the grant from Texas Workforce Commission.

The grant will be used to custom-train 255 new and incumbent nurses and technicians. The training will improve performance at the hospitals, enhance career paths for trainees, and increase the capacity for allied health training at ACC. Upon completion of training, those trained will earn an hourly wage between $20.32 and $63.47.

“Preserving and enhancing the pipeline of highly skilled healthcare workers is extremely important for the future of our region,” says Dr. Kathy Walton, executive director of ACC’s Corporate Training Solutions. “ACC works with employers upgrade the skill sets of their employees, helping ensure the quality of care in Central Texas.”

From the Skills Development Fund program’s inception in 1996 through 2011, Skills Development Fund grants have created or upgraded more than 266,000 jobs throughout Texas.

“Our Skills Development Fund grants serve everyone well,” said TWC Commissioner Representing Labor Ronny Congleton. “Workers get the specialized training they need, and the communities benefit from a more highly skilled workforce.” Â
