The Austin Community College District is holding a Registration Round Up in Elgin for residents interested in taking college classes during the summer semester.
The round up takes place 4-7 p.m. Wednesday, April 25, and Thursday, April 26, at the ACC Elgin Center (902 W. Second St.). College staff will be on hand to assist with admissions, the financial aid process, college readiness testing information, and registration.
The ACC Elgin Center is offering the following classes this summer (see online schedule):
- ECON 2301Â – Principles of Macroeconomics
- ENGL 1301 – English Composition I
- ENGL 1302 – English Composition II
- GOVT 2305 – United States Government
- MATD 0370 – Elementary Algebra
- MATD 0385 – Developing Mathematical Thinking
- SPCH 1311 – Introduction to Speech Communication
“This is a wonderful variety of classes,” says Linda Morrison, ACC’s director of center operations. “Whether this is your first time in college or you’re returning after taking time off, ACC’s Elgin Center can help you meet your goals. Our staff will be available to walk you through the process of getting started.”
The summer schedule includes the Elgin Center’s first offering of MATD 0385 (Developing Mathematical Thinking), a developmental math course designed for students not majoring in math or science fields. The class engages students in collaborative activities involving logical thinking, problem solving, data analysis, and basic financial mathematics. MATD 0385 has the highest pass rate among ACC’s developmental math classes.
“Math can be a barrier for many people who want to go to college,” says Morrison. “We encourage those students to give MATD 0385 a chance, and we are thrilled to offer that class at the Elgin Center.”
Summer registration is under way for current and former students and starts May 7 for new students. The summer semester begins May 29.
Tuition is $57 per credit hour for in-district students, or $219 for a 3-credit course, including fees. Senior citizens (65+) may enroll in up to six tuition-free credit hours, or two typical classes, per semester when space is available.
