GIS Students Showcase College Operations Projects May 10

Students from ACC’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Department are using what they learn in the classroom to analyze how ACC operates – and their semester-long projects will be on display Thursday, May 10.

GIS uses data to create maps that serve as tools for the analysis of real-world situations. The students partnered with ACC College Operations to examine topics including campus bus and rail access, renovations at Highland Mall, and student demographics. They will showcase their findings 4-6 p.m. at Rio Grande Campus (1212 Rio Grande St., second floor of Building 3000). The event will feature local coffee and refreshments, and students will be in attendance to answer questions.

“This is a great opportunity for our GIS students to work on a real-world project that also benefits the community they live in,” says Sean Moran, GIS department chair.
