New ACC Jazz Group Open to All Musicians; Enroll Now for Summer Class

Austin Community College students with a passion for music have the opportunity to participate in a new small jazz ensemble while earning college credit.

Small Commercial Music Ensemble (MUSP 1150) will be held during the summer session, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:15 to 6:45 p.m. at Northridge Campus (11928 Stonehollow Dr.). The ensemble will have numerous performances as well as make a recording. The class has no prerequisites, and no audition is required.

The class is open to all instrumentalists and vocalists. In addition to jazz, a variety of music styles – including blues, swing, and samba – will be studied.

“Anyone who has ever wanted to play jazz but doesn’t feel good enough to join a professional ensemble will fit right in. Beginners will find themselves in a comfortable setting,” says Scott Cain, professor of commercial music management.

Students have until May 23 to register for the class. The course is part of the 11-week summer session, running May 29 through August 15.

“All levels of musicianship will be challenged. I work with each person to help them improve to the next level,” Cain says.
