You guys really should have waited to upgrade until like next week. Some of us were still waiting for professors to post our actual grades on our finals. Yes we have the ability to see our overall grade through online services, but some professors posted a break down of the whole semester grades up on blackboard, and now we can’t see them until the 23rd.

Will there be any way to check grades from the Spring 2012 classes when Blackboard comes back up? The professor had not posted the last test and paper grades, so the only thing that can be accessed are final overall grades.
By Marissa May 19, 2012 - 3:23 am
I agree with Courtney. Y’all should’ve waited. My professors still haven’t put my grades up. I last checked yesterday. So thanks… Now I have to wait even longer.

Just echoing the sentiment of the previous commenter. This is very frustrating for those of us who don’t know our test scores.

I totally agree Courtney.

You could probably ask your professor for your grade since Blackboard is down.
By Ken May 21, 2012 - 6:15 am
Courtney, do you really think ACC cares about the concerns of students? Half of the professors don’t even use blackboard to post grades and of those that do, most give little or no feedback on how they determined your grade. While learning from your mistakes is an excellent teaching tool, most professors cannot be bothered to provide such feedback.

Hey guys, Sad to hear such negative comments about professors. For ACC employees it is also a pretty big inconvenience trying to get the next semester’s materials posted! But it has to be down sometime and mid-semester would be worse. BTW you can retrieve your final grades for all classes from “Online” tab right above Blackboard on the main page. You will have to log in and obviously will not see separate scores but you can see what final grade was assigned.

If students will go to the online services page (link is just above the Blackboard link), log in, and then choose unofficial transcript, they may see their spring 2012 grade posted. It worked for me.

I can’t agree more with you Ken.

To those of you complaining…
ACC professors on average are MUCH more student oriented than those you will find at major universities. Having attended both, I can say from experience that I have received much more feedback and communication from my professors IF I MADE EFFORT TO COMMUNICATE WITH THEM. While I agree that taking blackboard down is a pain to those of us who do have professors who give in depth grade breakdowns, that is just a necessary inconvenience that we have to go through, because this is the best time to re-do blackboard. Any other time would interfere with online classes that are run solely through blackboard.
If you don’t like the level of professionalism of the faculty at ACC, bust you butt and get into a full university where people will pay even less attention to your whining.

Will this re-enable Blackboard to be used with AT&T phones? It was working during the fall and most of the spring semesters, but with an app update, ACC disabled access to Blackboard on AT&T devices. While it didn’t do much (such as not show grades), it was still useful to have if I needed to check due dates on the fly.

Being from a different country and having attended several colleges and being a hard student to please – ACC has the BEST!!

To the students who complain about the professors…
1.How many professors do you have each semester? (maybe 3 or 4)
2.How many students do professors have each semester? (probably between 60 to over 100)
Now, who do you think has more time to contact individuals about test grades, the students or the professors?
If you wish to succeed in college, at any level, here’s how: Take an active interest in your grades BEFORE the end of the semester!!!!! Instead of waiting until after the last class of the semester to talk to your professor for the first time, try making contact early and demonstrate to your professor that you really are interested and not just taking classes because you have nothing better to do.
If you are REALLY interested in doing the best job you can, then it is your responsibility to do so, and be proactive in the course, instead of sitting on your butts, texting on your cell phones or chatting with your classmates during class.
Being the “Squeaky wheel” in the adult world of college means having active involvement in the course, not creating disturbances just to make noise, and to get the professor to pay attention to you.
If you think a professor is not giving you enough attention, then give the professor YOUR attention and interact like an adult.

I would venture to say if you made the effort to reach out to you professors they would provide the details you require. In my two plus years at ACC I’ve found I have always gotten what I put into anything I do here…gee that applies to life as well doesn’t it. What are you people going to do when you get your degrees and get a real job where your expected to perform and produce with little to no coddling??? Uh oh!

Spring grades were due May 16th. Professors should want to, get used to the new software, and post summer course materials before summer semester starts May 29th.
Given that very tight window, downtime May 18-22 sounds like a good attempt to balance these concerns.
Keep in mind the goal is to make things better.

I would like the opportunity to voice my thoughts regarding earlier posts:
This is life, get use to it. Things are not always peachy, systems need managed, upgraded, people need compassion, understanding. My grade for a class hasn’t posted either, and I have checked daily through online services, but I’m waiting until BB is back up and running before I contact another person within the system after contacting my professor. Please show as much patience as you would want shown to you…just a thought.

What a bunch of babies! Boo hoo, you have to wait longer for your grades, big deal! If you study and work hard, you should know approximately what your grades will be! Not to mention, if they waited longer to update blackboard, it would have cut into the first week of summer classes…when do you think would’ve been a better time to do this??? Cry babies…geez!
By Tyesha May 23, 2012 - 12:43 am
Blackboard being down is frustrating to the majority of us (professrs and students alike) but this is the best time to make the necessary upgrades. If the IT department believed waiting another week would have been beneficial, more than likely they would have waiting. However, had they waited, it would not have been ready for the summer semester. I am waiting for a breakdown of my final grades also, we just have to be a little more patient
