ACC Hosts Musical Celebration June 15 in Honor of Juneteenth

Austin Community College will host “Sounds of Freedom: ACC’s Musical Celebration of Juneteenth” on Friday, June 15, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd.).

The public is invited to bring picnic baskets and blankets to relax on the lawn and enjoy live performances by multi-faceted artists and some of Austin’s finest hip-hop musicians. All events are free; food and other refreshments will be available.

Juneteenth is a nationally celebrated commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday honors the arrival of troops in Galveston to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation in 1865.

The celebration is sponsored by ACC, the college’s Community Outreach Office, ACC’s African American Cultural Center, the Men of Distinction program (which provides support to African-American male students), Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., R.O.S.E.S.
