ACC Hosts Veterans Appreciation and Open House September 15

Note: This event will be held rain or shine.

Austin Community College  invites military veterans and their families to attend “From Humvee to ACC,” a veterans appreciation and open house Saturday, Sept. 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cypress Creek Campus in Cedar Park (1555 Cypress Creek Road).

Special guest is Dr. Granville Coggs, one of the last remaining Tuskegee Airmen who flew during World War II. Coggs, in his 80s, still works as a radiologist in San Antonio and competes in various athletic competitions around the state.

“From Humvee to ACC” provides veterans with an opportunity to learn about their college benefits, meet with ACC staff, and find out about community resources. There will be food, entertainment, and activities for adults and students.

Visitors will receive information on ACC’s veterans services, student services, financial aid, and disability services. A number of community and government organizations also will be on hand to provide information.

“Many military veterans are unclear about their educational benefits,” says Mervin Jones, an ACC counselor and Army veteran who started “From Humvee to ACC” four years ago. “We at ACC are that resource they can rely on for help and to answer questions.”
