View Wonders of the Sky at ACC Star Party Oct. 19

Austin Community College is hosting its fall 2012 star party Friday, Oct. 19 – giving the college and community an opportunity to view the wonders of the sky from the Round Rock Campus observation deck.

The event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. with shows in the Austin Planetarium’s Discovery Dome, a digital mobile planetarium, as well as family-friendly exhibits and interactive science activities (Building 2000 lobby). At 7 p.m., Dr. Jim Heath, astronomy professor and chair of ACC’s Physical Sciences Department, will give a presentation on the nature of science (Building 3000, Room 3339).

The Building 3000 observation deck will open at 7:30 p.m. Attendees are invited to view the night sky through the Physical Sciences Department’s new telescopes.

“This is an event for astronomy students as well as the entire community,” Dr. Heath says. “We want to help the public understand the work the college and the Austin Planetarium are doing, and this is a tremendous and fun opportunity to make that happen.”

The star party is free and open to the public. For more information, visit the star party webpage.
