ACC Veterans Share Personal Writings in Honor of Veterans Day

With Veterans Day approaching, Austin Community College will show its appreciation of veterans and active-duty service members with an evening of poetry and stories written by those who have served. “Honoring the Service” will take place Saturday, Nov. 10, at 5:30 p.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd., Room 8100).

The event will feature poet Brian Turner, whose award-winning poetry was written after tours of duty with the U.S. Army in Iraq and Bosnia-Herzegovina. ACC student veterans will also read their work.

“ACC is committed to our veterans and acknowledging the sacrifices they’ve made,” says Charlotte Gullick, chair of the ACC Creative Writing Department. “Sharing their writing is cathartic for many veterans, and it is always an honor to hear their work.”

The event is sponsored by ACC’s Creative Writing Department, Veteran Affairs, the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies, and the Arts and Humanities Division.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, contact Gullick at 223.3226 or [email protected].
