Dr. Betty Hwang is sworn in as a trustee by Dr. Vic Villarreal.

The Austin Community College District’s new and reelected Board of Trustees members officially took office Dec. 3, followed by the election of the 2012-14 board officers.

Dr. Betty Hwang was sworn in for her first term on the board after running unopposed for Place 8.

Dr. Barbara Mink, trustee for Place 7, was sworn in for her third term on the board while Allen Kaplan, Place 9, was sworn in for his fourth term. Both won re-election in November.

The board elected these officers for 2012-2013: Chair, Jeffrey Richard (Place 4); Vice Chair, Dr. Vic Villarreal (Place 5); Secretary, Guadalupe Sosa (Place 6).

Before the Dec. 3 board meeting, the college hosted a reception for outgoing trustee Dr. James McGuffee, who served one term on the board.

Board members serve staggered six-year terms and are elected at large by registered voters who live within ACC’s taxing district. This includes the city of Austin as well as the Austin, Leander, Manor, Del Valle, Round Rock, Elgin, and Hays school districts. Candidates must reside in the taxing district.
