ACC Hosts Civic Involvement Discussion Dec. 10 at Eastview Campus

In partnership with the Annette Strauss Institute for Civic Life at the University of Texas, ACC will host “Why Bother? Engaging our Changing City” – a forum on encouraging citizen involvement in the community’s future. The event is scheduled for Monday, Dec. 10, from 7 to 9 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Room 8500). It is free and open to the public; ACC students and employees are invited to take part.Â

“Government has a large influence on our lives and communities, and it’s most effective when people are actually engaged in democracy,” says Peck Young, director of ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies, which teamed with the Strauss Institute to host the event. “Austin is growing and becoming more diverse, but that isn’t reflected among the citizens who go to the polls.”Â

“Why Bother?” will include a panel of experts as well as roundtable discussions with community facilitators. Click here to learn more about the “Why Bother?” series and RSVP for the Dec. 10 event.
