Jazz Ensemble Hosts “Cowboy Christmas” Benefit Concert Dec. 13

The Austin Community College Jazz Ensemble is teaming with Grammy-winning guitarist Redd Volkaert to present “Cowboy Christmas,” benefiting a Dell Children’s Medical Center surgical team traveling overseas on a medical mission. The show is set for Thursday, Dec. 13, from 8:30 p.m. to midnight at The Loop Restaurant & Bar (2500 W. Parmer Lane).

“We are always happy to assist Dell Children’s whenever we can,” says Dr. Tom Husak, Jazz Ensemble director. “This will be a great show for an equally great cause.”

The event is free and open to the public; donations will benefit the Dell Children’s surgical mission trip. The funds are raised through a chapter of Dell Children’s Circle of Friends – grassroots, volunteer-led, community-based chapters that raise funds and awareness for Children’s Medical Center Foundation of Central Texas to benefit Dell Children’s. This chapter has chosen to focus attention on international mission work by members of the Dell Children’s staff.

The show will also honor Pat Hughes, a retiring ACC professor and Texas historian.

The ACC Jazz Ensemble has a decades-long commitment to playing benefit shows for charities and community organizations, and the group is recognized for its ability to combine musical tradition and innovation. The ACC Jazz Ensemble played at the presidential inauguration gala in January 2009; in addition, the band has headlined the Texas Jazz Festival and recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a performance at Bass Concert Hall.
