Beck Nominated for Statewide Teaching Award

Dr. Jennifer Beck, associate professor of psychology, has been selected as ACC’s nominee for the 2013 Minnie Stevens Piper Award for academic, scientific, and scholarly achievement by a college faculty member in Texas.

Dr. Jennifer Beck has taught at ACC since 2005.

Ten professors from colleges and universities statewide are named Piper Professors for their exceptional dedication to teaching. The award includes a $5,000 honorarium.

“The Piper Professors are selected not only for their effectiveness in the classroom and their interaction with students, but also for their service to the college and the off-campus community,” says Christina Michura, interim faculty development director. “They represent the best of their profession.”

Dr. Beck has been with ACC since 2005 and currently teaches Introduction to Psychology, Social Psychology, Human Growth and Development, and Statistical Methods for the Behavioral Sciences. She received an undergraduate degree from the University of New Hampshire and master’s and doctoral degrees from the University of California at Berkeley.

In addition to teaching, Dr. Beck serves as a research consultant for ACC’s faculty coach program and is the college’s 2012-2013 director for the Comprehensive Student Success Program grant funded by the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Beyond the ACC community, she helps non-profit organizations apply research and evaluation results to their decision-making.

The Piper Professor will be announced in the spring. To learn more about the Piper Award and its criteria, visit the Piper Professor website, or contact Christina Michura, professional development coordinator, at [email protected] or 223.7564.
