100+ ACC Students to Participate in Community College Day at the Capitol

More than 100 Austin Community College students will make their voices heard during Community College Day at the Texas Capitol, set for Tuesday, Feb. 5. The event, sponsored by the Texas Association of Community Colleges, gives students an opportunity to meet with lawmakers and discuss the cost of college, university transfer procedures, and other important issues.

“Community College Day lets us share thoughts and opinions directly with our state representatives,” says Michael Wade, president of ACC’s Student Government Association. “I hope it encourages students to become more civically engaged and to participate in our communities.”

The event will begin at 10 a.m. with a rally on the south steps of the Capitol. Students will then meet with lawmakers and tour the House and Senate chambers.

“We look forward to ACC students joining with others from across the state to show the value of community colleges,” says Linda Young, ACC’s special assistant to the president for external affairs. “This is a wonderful opportunity for our students to speak with elected officials and be part of a larger movement to strengthen our state by improving education opportunities for all.”
