Upcoming TABPHE Conference to Focus on Education Pathways

Representatives from colleges and universities statewide will discuss concerns pertinent to African-American students and faculty at the 40th annual Texas Association of Black Personnel in Higher Education conference Feb. 14-16 in Austin.

“Paving Higher Education Pathways for the Next 40 Years,” is presented jointly by TABPHE and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board to assess the needs and promote the goals of blacks in higher education. The Austin TABPHE chapter is a co-sponsor of the event.

“This conference attracts statewide and national attention by bringing together representatives from both public school and higher education institutions, state government, corporations, private industry and non-profit organizations,” says Loretta Edelen, ACC director of community outreach and conference co-chair. “ACC is a co-host for this conference and has provided long-time support and participation. This broad base of support includes current and former board chairs Jeffrey Richard and Dr. Barbara Mink. ACC also has many life members, including former and current presidents Dr. Stephen Kinslow and Dr. Richard Rhodes.”

ACC faculty and staff are encouraged to attend. Conference activities will include:

  • Legislative Day at the state capitol
  • Special workshop strand on African-American student issues
  • Graduate and undergraduate student leadership institutes
  • P-16 faculty institute addressing African-American students
  • Early conference staff development institute
