Leaner, Easy-to-Use Website Targets Student Success

A critical project is underway that will help the college promote student success by improving the primary gateway to everything we have to offer: the ACC website.

During the past several months, a team has been redesigning our site to better serve students, faculty, staff, and friends of ACC. The new site will be easier to navigate, with a consistent, polished design that reflects the college’s brand standards and works equally well on a desktop computer, smartphone, or tablet devices.

As a secondary benefit, the new site will be easier to maintain and update by those responsible for posting content and updating information. This will eliminate bottlenecks and ensure that users always have the most timely and accurate information possible.

We began this project after research indicated a need to streamline and reorganize web content so that students could find information and complete tasks more easily, even if they were not familiar with ACC’s organizational structure or processes. Ultimately, we will have a leaner, more readable website that is easier for all users to navigate, particularly those who are first-time college students.

The first redesigned webpages – those with relevant and critical student content — are nearing completion, and in the coming weeks will be reviewed, revised, and reorganized as needed. These pages address admissions and registration, financial aid, official communication systems, academic support, and student services. Redesigned pages for academic areas and departments will follow.

We expect a test version of the new site to be ready around the end of March. Currently, members of the redesign team are seeking input from subject matter experts to ensure content is presented succinctly and accurately. Ultimately, these content owners will be able to use the Drupal content management tool to update and maintain their information.

Our website is a vital tool for connecting with students and others those within and outside the ACC community. The new version will better serve the college as a whole.
