Receiving Recognition

Lisa McCartney, department chair for Pharmacy Technology, is the recipient of the 2013 Mike Knapp Pharmacy Technician Award from the Texas Society of Health-System Pharmacists. The award is annually given to a technician who fosters the advancement of patient care and/or the pharmacy profession. The society will recognize McCartney at its April 28 awards luncheon.

Carol Hayman's billboard can be seen around Austin.

Carol Hayman, adjunct professor of anthropology, was a finalist for Austin Visual Arts Association Artist of the Year in photography and printmaking. You can see Hayman’s work around Austin on a moving billboard that won the 2011 Reagan Outdoor Advertising’s Billboard Competition.

Sharing Expertise

In February, Erlene Clark and Kim Duren of the Architectural and Engineering Computer Aided Design Department, gave presentations during the Texas Community College Teachers Association’s annual convention in Houston. Clark, an associate professor, presented on “Revit Architecture for Beginners: Teaching Building Information Modeling to Introductory-Level CAD Students.” Professor Duren presented on “Program-Level Student Learning Outcomes and Course Sequencing.”

Dr. MaryJane McReynolds, director of articulation and transfer resources, and Renee Esparza, transfer resources coordinator, were invited to make a presentation Jan. 30 at the National Institute for the Study of Transfer Students Conference in Dallas. Their poster “Reverse Transfer: Process and Practice” outlines the degree completion process that ACC provides for students who transfer to a university before completing their associate degree. This reverse transfer process is currently being used with several of ACC’s largest university partners.

Indie Soap Awards

Nate Locklear, lab technician and instructor for the Radio, Television, and Film Department, received the Best Editing Award in the fourth annual Indie Soap Awards for his web series, “Once You Leave.” Locklear was also nominated in the Best Cinematography category.  “Once You Leave” (http://OnceYouLeave.com) is a 12-part  web series and transmedia storytelling project about a young woman traveling in search of her place in the world. A crew comprised of current and former ACC students and staff created the series.

Hometown Girl

Betsy Erwin has been named campus manager for Elgin Campus. For 17 years, Erwin has held numerous positions at ACC and served as South Austin campus manager since it opened in 2006. Erwin is an Elgin resident and will bring her love of the community to the new campus.
