Beware Email Spoofing

Maybe this has happened to you: You check your email spam folder and see a variety of emails about “enhancements” and “buying new software” that seem to have been sent from your own email account.

You’ve been “spoofed.”

With spoofing, spammers will change email headers to make a message look like a legitimate email from a friend or acquaintance, or even from yourself.

If you find these emails in your inbox, mark them as spam, advises Stan Gunn, associate vice president of information technology. If you find the messages in your spam folder, ignore them and return to your email inbox — your spam filter is doing its job.

If you have any questions or concerns about email or Google Apps for Education, please contact Lara Niles, IT applications administrator.
