ACC Marks Milestone in Hays Campus Construction

Austin Community College is celebrating a milestone in the construction of its Hays Campus. ACC and Flintco, the construction manager, marked the project’s “topping out” March 5 – signifying completion of the campus’s structural frame.

“It is exciting to see this campus taking shape, thanks to the hard work of the facilities, design, and construction teams,” says Dr. Richard Rhodes, ACC president/CEO. “Hays Campus is going to be a great resource for residents, and we look forward to opening it up and serving the community.”

Hays Campus, located on 96 acres near the Plum Creek development at Kohler’s Crossing and Kyle Parkway, is scheduled to open for classes in spring 2014. It will be the first community college campus in Hays County.

“This is an important milestone for our community,” says Terry Mazurek, a Hays CISD resident who co-chaired the annexation steering committee. “It’s a reflection of both the growth of the Hays community and the value our citizens place on education.”

Dr. Denise Trauth, president of Texas State University, attended the topping-out ceremony and, with Dr. Rhodes, discussed the growing partnership between ACC and the university in San Marcos.

The three-story, 88,300-square-foot Hays Campus building, designed by Gensler, will accommodate up to 2,000 students. Offerings will include transferable general education courses as well as workforce training programs. The campus will feature classrooms, labs, student services, a library and media center, a Student Life office, student commons area, and more.

Hays CISD voters approved annexation into the ACC District in 2010. Residents already have convenient access to ACC classes through the Hays Center, located at Hays High School (4800 Jack C. Hays Trail in Buda). For more information, including campus construction updates, visit austincc.edu/hays.
