ACC Congratulates Winners of Teaching, Leadership, NISOD Awards

The college congratulates the recipients of the following annual awards recognizing excellence in teaching and leadership.

“We are fortunate to have such accomplished and dedicated professionals within our ACC community,” says ACC President/CEO Dr. Richard Rhodes. “Their commitment to their students’ success is evident through their work both in the classroom and on campus.”

ACC Teaching Excellence Award

Sheila Ammons, professor of accounting, and Jill Brockmann, adjunct assistant professor of business & technical communications, are recipients of ACC’s 2013 Teaching Excellence Award.

Sheila Ammons

The Teaching Excellence Award honors one full-time and one adjunct faculty member who promote special learning opportunities, student interaction, and innovation. Recipients are nominated by faculty, staff, and students and are selected by an awards committee. They receive a $1,000 cash award.

Ammons has taught at ACC since 1986. She is co-creator of Accounting Toolbox for Success, a collection of instructional modules and resources for accounting students. She is a previous recipient of the American Accounting Association’s Two Year Educator of the Year award and served as a board member for Teachers of Accounting at Two Year Colleges.

Jill Brockmann

Brockmann is co-creator of ACC’s upcoming Social Media Communication associate degree program and a faculty member for the Certificate of Nonprofit Leadership Management Program within ACC’s Center for Community-Based and Nonprofit Organizations. She also created and is an instructor for the Social Media Certificate Program for the Texas Association of Nonprofit Organizations.

ACC Leadership Award

The following recipients of the ACC Leadership Award were selected for their willingness to go above and beyond their job duties in serving the ACC community.

  • President’s Leadership Excellence Award: Enrique Solis, interim executive vice president and provost
  • Administrator of the Year: Eileen Klein, executive dean of health sciences
  • Classified Employee of the Year: Pete Soto, district police patrol officer
  • Professional/Technical Employee of the Year: Â Linda Haywood, Cypress Creek Campus manager

John & Suanne Roueche Excellence Award

The John & Suanne Roueche Excellence award celebrates outstanding contributions and leadership by community college faculty and staff. Recipients are from institutions participating in the League for Innovation in the Community College and are recognized at several activities and events.

  • Jennifer Beck, associate professor of psychology (Minnie L. Stevens Piper Professor nominee)
  • David Lauderback, professor of history
  • Eileen Klein, executive dean of health sciences
  • Enrique Solis, interim executive vice president and provost

NISOD Excellence Award

NISOD (National Institute for Staff and Organizational Development) emphasizes the importance of teaching and leadership excellence in institutions of higher education. NISOD’s 700-plus community college members include almost every large community college district in the United States and more than 200 small colleges worldwide. NISOD Excellence Award recipients were selected from the nominees for ACC teaching and leadership awards.

  • Sarah Finney, professor of computer information technology
  • Oralia Guerra, adjunct professor of developmental math

  • Linda Haywood, Cypress Creek Campus manager
  • Thom McFarland, adjunct professor of English
  • Jose Milan, department chair & associate professor, Physical Therapy Assistant Program
  • Missi Patterson, associate professor of psychology
  • Pete Soto, district police patrol officer
  • Gary Stewart, adjunct professor of computer information technology
