Celebrate Earth Day with Fair and Eco Bag Art Contest

The Sustainability Office is hosting an Earth Day Ceremony and Sustainability Fair at the Round Rock Campus on Monday, April 22 from 10:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The fair celebrates Earth Day and recognizes the campus’ LEED Silver rating award from the U.S. Green Building Council. Faculty, staff, and students are invited to get involved and bring their friends and family.

Earth Day Ceremony and Sustainability Fair Schedule

10:30 a.m. LEED & Solar Project Ceremony

A ceremony at the amphitheater will celebrate the Round Rock Campus’ LEED Silver rating and its 312 kW solar energy system. LEED-certified buildings reduce waste to landfills, conserve energy and water, and are healthier and safer for occupants.

11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Earth Day Fair

Take part in a 5K walk/run, games, and lemonade on the lawn. See electric vehicles on display or meet community partners at information tables. Email [email protected] if your student group or department would like to host an Earth Day activity or information table.

1 – 2:30 p.m. Movie: “Thin Ice: The Inside Story of Climate Science”

Bring popcorn and friends for this world premiere. The screening will be in the cafeteria area in Building 2000. Admission is free. Read about the movie and the global premier event.

Eco Bag Art Contest Judging

View the entries in the 2013 Earth Day Eco Bag Art Contest, sponsored by the Sustainability Office and the Art Department. Students can submit original artwork with an earth and/or sustainability theme through April 17th. Designs will be on display at the Earth Day Fair, and visitors can vote online for their favorite design through noon on April 26. First prize is a Kindle e-reader; two honorable mention winners will receive a Timbuk2 messenger bag. Contact [email protected] for entry details.
