Library Services Awarded Grant to Promote Muslim Studies

ACC Library Services has been chosen as a recipient of a “Bridging Cultures Bookshelf: Muslim Journeys” grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities and the American Library Association. The program aims to familiarize audiences with the people, places, history, and cultures of Islam in the United States and around the world.

As part of the grant, ACC has added 25 books and 3 films to its library collection. Library Services, along with the Austin Peace Academy, will host a viewing and discussion of two of the films Wednesday, April 3, and Thursday, April 4 at 11:30 a.m. at the Rio Grande Campus (1212 Rio Grande St., Main Stage Theatre, second floor).

The books and films comprising the Muslim Journeys Bookshelf were selected with the advice of librarians, scholars, and cultural programming experts. In addition, Library Services has received a one-year subscription to Oxford Islamic Studies Online, which features reference content and commentary by renowned scholars in a variety of areas.
