ACC Student Newspaper Earns State Journalism Honors

Accent staff with their awards from the Texas Intercollegiate Press Association.

The Accent, ACC’s student newspaper, earned 17 awards at the recent Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention, including second place for overall excellence.

Accent won first place prizes in several of the previously published and on-site contests:

  • Dana Manickvasagan in Feature Photo
  • Kristen Sauls in Page One Design and Information Graphic
  • Abra Gist and Janice Veteran in Feature Story
  • Jon Shapley in Sports Feature Photo
  • Joey Gidseg in Best Video
  • Daniel Lopez in Radio Announcing (Spanish)

The competition included more than 400 participants representing 43 colleges from across the state.

“Each year, Accent students continue to shine brighter than the year before,” says Cheryl Richard, director of Student Life. “ACC’s hands-on student media program continues to provide a quality, real-world experience, and our students are dedicated to making Accent an outstanding publication.”
