ACC Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa Honored at Regional, International Conventions

Members of ACC's Phi Theta Kappa at the organization's international convention.

ACC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the honor society of two-year colleges, was recently recognized at the organization’s regional and international conventions.

ACC student Daniel Chitty was elected the organization’s International President, a one-year term that will require him to represent Phi Theta Kappa at regional meetings and education conferences, as well as preside over the annual convention.

“ACC hasn’t had a member named International President since 2005, so this is very exciting for us,” says Mary Kohls, the chapter’s faculty advisor. “The entire chapter came together to help Daniel with his campaign, and we couldn’t be more proud of him.”

At the regional convention, the ACC chapter, Alpha Gamma Pi, was elected president for Texas Regional Phi Theta Kappa. Joanna Anderson will be the chapter’s representative.

Other honors earned at the regional convention include:

  • Top Chapter
  • 5-Star Chapter (highest achievable level)
  • Chapter Communication Award
  • Sarah Young, Distinguished Member
  • Holly Carrico and Daniel Chitty, Texas Hall of Honor for Members
  • Dr. Reed Peoples, Texas Hall of Honor for Advisors
  • Joshua Scott, Individual Communication Award
  • Mary Kohls, Most Outstanding Advisor

At the international convention, held earlier this month in San Jose, Calif., the chapter received the following awards:

  • Top 100 Chapter (out of 1,300 chapters)
  • Five Star Level Chapter (highest attainable level)
  • Sara Young, Â Texas Region Distinguished Member
