ACC Hosts Seventh Annual Día de la Familia April 27

Austin Community College invites families to the seventh annual Día de la Familia festival on Saturday, April 27, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Riverside Campus (1020 Grove Blvd.).

The bilingual, multicultural event celebrates the community and provides important information about ACC. College staff will be on hand to provide information about admissions, financial aid, and adult education, including ESL and GED programs.

Los Texas Wranglers will perform live Tejano music, and there will be food and refreshments. Children will enjoy entertainment, games, and face painting.

“Día de la Familia allows the community to get connected to our programs and services,” says Dr. Mariano Díaz-Miranda, director of ACC’s Latino/Latin American Studies Center. “ACC is truly the community’s college, and we invite families to experience that for themselves at Día de la Familia.”

Día de la Familia is part of the college’s ongoing efforts to reach out to the growing number of Hispanic families in the area and to build a college-going culture. In fall 2012, ACC enrolled 12,276 Hispanic credit students, more than 28 percent of the credit student body. The college is certified as a Hispanic Serving Institution, a federal designation indicating the college maintains 25 percent or greater full-time equivalent Hispanic enrollment.

The event is free and open to the public. For more information, call 223.6361 or visit austincc.edu/elcentro.
