African-American Cultural Center Hosts Juneteenth Recognition

ACC’s African-American Cultural Center will host a Juneteenth event Wednesday, June 19, at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Building 2000, Room 2133). The program and reception run 10 to 11:30 a.m. It is free and open to the public.

The event will include a recognition of community leaders, including the late Mae Pearl Leonard, who served as a member of Eastview’s original Campus Advisory Committee.

Juneteenth, celebrated on June 19, is a national commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States. The holiday honors the arrival of troops in Galveston to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation.
