ACC Trains Texas High School Teachers in Biotechnology Advancements

Austin Community College’s Biotechnology Department is training high school science, health, and agriculture teachers from across the state on the latest skills and technology needed to prepare students for a career in the biotechnology industry. The training takes place June 26-28 at Austin ISD’s Anderson High School.

During the workshop, co-sponsored by the Texas Education Agency, participants will gain hands-on experience with the latest equipment and techniques used in the biotechnology field. The teachers also will receive training on how to effectively teach biotechnology curriculum, and learn about career pathways available to students.

“We are excited to introduce these teachers to the biotech field and give them the tools needed to teach the next generation of biotechnology professionals,” says Dr. Linnea Fletcher, chair of ACC’s Biotechnology Department.
