Austin Community College culinary arts students are putting their training to work in on-campus restaurants open to the college and community.
Lunch café Le Bistrette operates Wednesdays through Dec. 4, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Room 3158).In addition to a standard menu, this semester Le Bistrette will offer special meals from regions across the country. (View the menu on Le Bistrette’s webpage.) Reservations are not required. The restaurant is part of the American Regional Cuisine class, a capstone course for ACC’s Culinary Arts Program.
Students will serve dinner at the fine-dining restaurant Bistro 3158 on Thursdays from Oct. 10 through Nov. 21. Reservations are required and can be made on Bistro 3158’s webpage. Bistro 3158, also located at Eastview Campus, is part of the International Cuisine capstone class.
“These restaurants gives our students the opportunity to see what it is like to work in a real kitchen,” says Chef Sandi Pepper, a professor in the Culinary Arts Department. “It’s great technical training, but it’s also gratifying for the students to see how much diners enjoy the experience.”
Gratuities are not accepted, but patrons are encouraged to fill out comment cards to assist students in the learning process.
