UT Scholar to Discuss India’s Surrogacy Market Nov. 18 at ACC

South Asian-American Studies Scholar Dr. Sharmila Rudrappa will address India’s growing surrogacy industry at a presentation Monday, Nov. 18, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Room 8500).

Rudrappa, associate professor at the University of Texas at Austin, will discuss the growing number of working class mothers who opt for surrogacy in the absence of meaningful work. Rudrappa specializes in gender and immigration issues, and is author of the book “Ethnic Routes to Becoming American: Indian Immigrants and the Cultures of Citizenship.”

The free event is hosted by ACC’s Sociology & Social Work Department and is open to faculty, staff, and students.
