Austin Community College will host a screening of the documentary “Coming Home” and a panel discussion featuring Garcia, a Miami hip-hop artist and filmmaker. The screening will be Thursday, Nov. 21, at 7 p.m. at Eastview Campus (3401 Webberville Rd., Building 8000, Room 8500).

In the documentary, Garcia and a fellow Cuban American hip-hop artist travel to Cuba to explore the impact of hip-hop culture on their parents’ homeland, and to experience Cuban music and atmosphere first hand.

“This film allows us to compare the effect of government in open and closed societies, while reminding us that music is an international language that should be used to unite all cultures,” says Avy Gonzales, an ACC graduate who organized the event.

The event is free and open to the public; RSVPs are not required. Authentic Cuban food will be provided.

The screening is sponsored by the Arts & Humanities Division, Government Department, El Centro, and the Center for Student Political Studies.
