Employers seeking ACC students for tourism, culinary jobs

ACC Career and Internship Fair features more than 50 businesses

4 – 6 p.m. Monday, October 6 | Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Rd., Rm. 8500

Austin Community College’s Hospitality Management and Culinary Arts departments will co-host their fourth annual Career and Internship Fair Monday, October 6, to connect ACC students and employers. It will be 4-6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room 8500 of the Eastview Campus, 3401 Webberville Road.

The event is free and open to all current and former ACC students interested in careers in hospitality management, meeting and event planning, travel/tourism, and culinary arts.

With 50 companies planning to attend, this year’s fair doubles the number of employers seeking ACC students to fill full-time, part-time, seasonal, and internship positions.

“The career fair continues to grow due to the need to fill many open positions, and we want to help create a pipeline of leaders to support our local growth,” says Michelle Fitzpatrick, chair of the Hospitality Management Department.

Projections show Austin travel and tourism employment growing 4.2 percent in 2014-2015, compared with 2.3 percent nationwide.

“With tourism being the driving force of Austin, more hotels are being built, and Austin Community College is at the forefront of providing skilled workers for the industry,” Fitzpatrick says.

This fair is an opportunity for students to network with potential employers and polish their interviewing skills. Students are encouraged to arrive dressed to interview with copies of their résumé and be prepared to meet with employers for guidance.
