Austin Community College will join first responders, medical personnel, and emergency management agencies from the region and the state to participate in a mock disaster exercise Friday, November 7, at the Round Rock Campus.
Coordinated by members of the Capital Area Council of Governments, the full-scale exercise gives organizations and agencies a chance to practice an integrated response to a large-scale emergency. ACC also will practice its own emergency procedures.
Volunteers needed
Some student and employee volunteers are needed to be disaster victims and role-players. Given the nature of the scenarios, volunteers will first be recruited from students planning careers in nursing and emergency medical services, fire protection, criminal justice, building construction, theater, and media.
The exercise will take place over several hours, and some volunteers will need to arrive well in advance for makeup and coaching for their role. Certain volunteers will be transported by EMS so hospitals can practice their mass casualty plans. This is a realistic scenario, so the experience may be too intense for some individuals; volunteers will be well-briefed on what to expect.
Limited space will be available for students and employees to observe the exercise. Those who want to observe must submit an observer request form. Complete the online full-scale exercise observer request form.
