Austin Community College is hosting visiting scholar Dr. James Rhem through the month of April.
A nationally recognized expert on teaching and learning, Dr. Rhem has created several teacher publications including the Teaching Professor and the National Teaching and Learning FORUM.
Rhem earned his master’s and doctoral degrees in 18th century British literature studies from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. He has researched and published extensively on a student-informed approach to teaching.
During his residency at ACC, Dr. Rhem is meeting with ACC faculty to share effective teaching techniques.
“When I accepted this opportunity at ACC I didn’t quite know what to expect,” Rhem says. “It’s hard to build collegiality in such a large system, but there’s a fresh feeling here and a determination to find ways to keep doing good and even better work teaching.”
Faculty are invited to join Dr. Rhem on the Rhem Riverboat Faculty Development Dinner Cruise on Friday, April 24, at Lady Bird Lake to network and earn professional development credit. Dr. Rhem also will host A Buffet of Fundamental Truths about Learning, a panel discussion, on the following dates:
- April 13, South Austin Campus, Noon – 2 p.m.
- April 21, Round Rock Campus, Noon – 2 p.m.
- April 24, Rio Grande Campus, 10 a.m. – 12 p.m.
