ACC’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies hosts fundraiser

“Building Tomorrow’s Leaders” features keynote speaker Bill Blackstone

x-defaultThe Austin Community College District’s Center for Public Policy and Political Studies (CPPPS) will hold its 7th annual fundraiser luncheon 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Monday, May 11, at the AT&T Executive Education and Conference Center (1900 University Ave.) featuring Bill Blackstone as keynote speaker.

Blackstone is the general manager and site executive of Rackspace, Inc. in Austin. He is responsible for negotiating a proposed partnership with ACC that will provide high-tech jobs and unique opportunities for ACC students. He also worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Central Texas to create the first regional workplace mentorship program serving at-risk middle school youth.

“Like Bill Blackstone, we understand the importance of building tomorrow’s leaders,” said CPPPS Director Peck Young. “We provide students innovative programs designed to encourage their political and civic engagement and enrich their learning experience.”

CPPPS is the nation’s first nonprofit public policy center at a community college. Founded in 2007, the center has built an impressive roster of award-winning programs, internships, and conferences while continuing to gather support for further innovation and growth.

Luncheon guests will have an opportunity to visit with the CPPPS board and staff along with students who have benefited first-hand from center programs. Proceeds benefit CPPPS programs and services.

Additionally, ACC Board of Trustees Vice Chair Allen Kaplan will receive the CPPPS 2015 “Building Tomorrow’s Leaders Award” for his support of higher education in Texas. Kaplan was elected to the board in 1994 and re-elected in 2000, 2006, and 2012.
