Courses prepare international students for successful transition into college
The Austin Community College District (ACC) is launching an Intensive English Program (IEP) in fall to prepare international students for college-level courses.
“This is a very exciting moment for ACC. International students can now start with us to develop a strong foundation for a successful transition into college,” says Kim Oliver, ACC IEP director.
Taught by a team of highly experienced instructors, ACC’s IEP offers rigorous, accelerated academic and English language preparation through intensive ESL coursework, test preparation, study skills training, cultural orientation, and individualized instruction and assessment. Students also receive TOEFL exam preparation, English pronunciation, and other electives.
New sessions start every two months, allowing students to progress quickly through the program.
“We know the need for a program like this is growing as more international families move into Austin,” says Oliver. “Our goal is to provide pathways with faster progress at a lower cost.”
ACC’s IEP will prepare students to directly enter college-level courses at ACC, transition into a four-year university program, or return to their native country with an intensive experience abroad.
