“ACC Votes,” a non-partisan initiative of the Austin Community College District (ACC), is hosting a voter registration rally from 11 a.m. to noon Tuesday, September 22, at Highland Campus (6101 Airport Blvd.) in honor National Voter Registration Day.
The rally features guest speakers Sen. Kirk Watson, Travis County Tax Assessor-Collector and Voter Registrar Bruce Elfant, and Austin City Council member Greg Casar.
Students, faculty, staff, and members of the community will have the opportunity to register to vote, check voter status, and obtain information on what is needed to cast a vote in Texas. Information also will be available for those who have recently relocated or may be voting for the first time.
“Voter registration is key to getting Americans participating in the political process. Our democracy is strongest when all citizens vote,” says Dr. Molly Beth Malcolm, ACC vice president of external affairs. “This event will bring much-needed attention to the importance of registering and voting.
Hosted by the Student Government Association, the Center for Public Policy and Political Studies, and the Office of External Affairs, the celebration is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be provided.
ACC will host additional registration drives on each campus. The deadline to register to vote this fall is Monday, October 5. Election Day is Tuesday, November 3.
